Six of crows review

Although the gloomy streets of Ketterdam are feeling all to familiar to the current atmosphere around where I am living ,I thought I’d share with you the first book of my favourite YA fantasy trilogy - six of crows by Leigh Bardugo.
.Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone...

A convict with a thirst for revenge

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager

A runaway with a privileged past

A spy known as the Wraith

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

-Six of crows blurb

First of all ,there is so much I want to say about this series - it bought me out of the biggest reading slump. This book is written in a multi perspective style which I am not usually very fond of  especially as there are 6 POVs in this book, however believe that in this particular book this was done very well. All of the characters have very unique voices and the use of mutiple  povs  really helps to build tension and is great in terms of the pacing of the book.

Furthermore, the characters that are created in the book are so intricate in a way that is not often seen in YA style books. They are all unique  characters and also manage to explore more mature topics in a sensitive way without making the topics solely a plot device.Honestly, when I finished this series I truly felt that I had lost friends ,as the characters where so vivid.

As well as this, the style the book was written in was just as enjoyable as the plot - and was significantly elevated by the world building.

kaz leaned back. "What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?"
"Knife to the throat?" asked Inej.
"Gun to the back?" said Jesper.
"Poison in his cup?" suggested Nina.
"You're all horrible," said Matthias.
