When I tell you I was so excited to read this book ,all my friends had been recommending it ,I saw people regularly checking it out of the local libary ,it had been spread across my social media like the plague-but unfortunately (and quite ironically )my hopes of reading another good dystopian where brutally shattered.

Firstly ,the writing style (while unique)was overall incredibly immature and in some places completely inappropriate and just took away from the story.I mean “I’m wondering why my heart is full of freight trains ,why his lungs are a broken harmonica “hardly makes sense as a metaphor,and really takes away from any atmosphere being built which is really what a good metaphor should do .A lot of the writing in this book felt like childish metaphors lumped on top of each other into some mutant tiktokable book - I mean your really going to compare the main love interest to a broken harmonica?

As well as this ,a lot of the writing felt like it had been written very immaturely while still trying to impress a more mature age category .For example describing things as “infinitesimal “makes absolutely no sense in a place where it neither enhances the text or would make sense to the demographic of readers- it just feels like it had been thrown in there just to impress.

Finally,the plot and characters where just so dry.There is nothing wrong with the characters or the plot as such they where just very uninteresting and on the whole underdeveloped.While the concept was decent the execution was poor at best.And honestly don’t even get me started on the whole crossing out of lines thing- I know it was supposed to highlight her character and show her thought but boy was it annoying.
